Courses For Horses

OK, peeps, it's time to head for the hills. Say goodbye to the sea for now and start heading inland.

Keep the Knill Monument on your left as you head up the path and then turn right at the marker. Route of St. Michael's Way, Penwith, Cornwall 29
Briefly follow the path and then turn left at the next marker before you reach the gate. Route of St. Michael's Way, Penwith, Cornwall 30
Follow the path downhill but be warned, this is a bridal path and is also used by horse-drivers ..... Route of St. Michael's Way, Penwith, Cornwall 31

That's them there.

Oi you, come back and pick that up!

At the bottom of the path you reach a road.

Go left and follow the road for quite a way. (Watch out for cars, natch). (7 on Map)

This is one of those points where the importance of having an OS map becomes clear. The road is not difficult to follow but there are quite a few public footpaths which you can use (obviously) but aren't part of St. Michael's Way.

This, f'rinstance, is a public footpath. However, it is not the right way to go ..... Route of St. Michael's Way, Penwith, Cornwall 35
..... this cunningly camouflaged entrance is! (8 on Map) Route of St. Michael's Way, Penwith, Cornwall 36
It only really becomes obvious when you're right on top of it.

As you can see there is a wooden marker post (complete with clam shell logo) but there isn't always one so you need to pay close attention, either to the map or this feature!

Just scuttle along this somewhat overgrown path .....

..... and you emerge in the Little Trevarrack Camp for Displaced Emmets.

(Remember those signs in the Cardboard Bay shortcut?)

You are greeted by this vast expanse of nothingness (probably full of caravans in the Summer).

There are no clues where to go to next but you need to head diagonally right towards that hedgerow in the distance.
