We were concerned to see the following in today's newspaper: "torrential rain sent a river of mud and water through the centre of the Cornish resort of St Ives. An inshore lifeboat rescued 18 people after the normally tranquil Stennack burst its banks when a band of rain crossed west Cornwall, dropping 2in of water on already wet ground."
